Chef Chris Jack Takes First Place at Tom Tom Founders Festival Iron Chef Competition

We are proud to announce Executive Chef Chris Jack took first place in the annual Tom Tom Founders Festival Iron Chef Competition, held at the Charlottesville City Market this weekend.

Chef Jack faced three other Charlottesville area chefs, each who was given $50 and 20 minutes to shop for ingredients at the farmers market, then 30 minutes to prepare a dish to present to a panel of local food celebrity judges. Prior to shopping in the market, the judges announced a secret ingredient that the competitors were required to incorporate into the dish. This year’s secret ingredient was Gearhart’s Signature Blend Dark Bittersweet Chocolate, artisan chocolate crafted in Charlottesville.

Chef Jack’s award winning dish featured Pan Seared Duck Heart, Spicy Chocolate Granola Crusted Duck Liver, sautéed oyster mushrooms with purple scallions, wilted arugula and spicy strawberry rhubarb Jam.

The Tom Tom Founders Festival is held annually in Charlottesville, VA to celebrate the birth of hometown hero Thomas Jefferson, one of the founders of our nation. The Founders Festival explores diverse disciplines – society, education, energy, food, and technology and seeks to empower the innovators whose creativity, entrepreneurial spirit, and dedication to community help ensure a better future for us all.

Plan on celebrating Chef’s victory with us on May 19, where we will feature some of Chef’s creations. Details to be announced soon!
